Some Truths
About Fear and Anxiety
Fear is very real to many of us and we need to be aware of its
effects: negative or positive. It can paralyze us or motivate us: our choice.
The following five points are facts of anyone's life. Choose
to use the knowledge and move forward. You don't have to have any more courage than anyone, but
once you have experienced the
paralysis and feelings of loss of control, you will never again
let you let it control you.
FACT #1: As you continue to grow, facing fears remains a part of
your life.
MOVING FORWARD: realize that the world will not end today if
you make a mistake. Look to see what you can learn from this, vow
not to repeat it, forgive yourself, and move on.
FACT #2: The only way to get rid of the fear of doing something
is to go out- and do it.
MOVING FORWARD: This seems to be a wake up call to awareness: is
this what you really want to do? Take some time to think and then make a decision.
Fact #3: One way to feel better about yourself is to do the things
you fear doing.
MOVING FORWARD: Be it climbing a mountain or paying bills, your
life has already given you many clues as to how to deal with these. Choose to find out HOW you CAN
do it: don't accept the fact you may not be able to.
FACT #4: You are not alone in experiencing fear whenever you are
On unfamiliar territory: others have similar fears.
MOVING FORWARD: Fear is meant as a checkpoint. It's the yellow flag or the red light that moves things along.
It's the freedom
of choice: a time for evaluation or assessment. It is never meant as a final decision. All your
senses and your intuition
are at peak working order.
FACT #5: Pushing through fear is less frightening than living with the underlying fear that comes from a feeling
of helplessness.
MOVING FORWARD: Knowing what you have to deal with is often less
scary than wondering what is coming. So facing the fear and asking what it means to you is
telling your mind what work at.
This is where having values and goals become so important. They
give you the strength and courage to stick with something, even
when things get tough.
There is an acronym for FEAR: FALSE EVIDENCE APPEARING REAL.
Much as I dislike the glib statements, this one, at least, helps
us to THINK. The evidence may not be false, but at least the choice is yours to decide how you go on from here.

would love to give them credit. I added the "moving forward" points because I like
to...move forward!
